Many professionals in the financial industry warn against the dangers of student credit card use. They fear that young people will let their credit card use run out of control. Instead of fearing that young people will fail, try educating them about credit card use. After all, the benefits of getting a credit card while young far outweigh the risks.

The Risks Involved

Many young people have the perception that using a credit card is the same as paying with their bank debit card. They do not consider the extra fees or the risk of building debt. These people think that they can just go ahead and use their credit card for any purchases that they cannot afford at the time. This type of thinking can lead to a huge credit card balance. With young people, this can be particularly dangerous, as they do not have the income to pay off the balance. Credit cards allow young people to dig a financial hole that they do not have the resources to climb out of.

As their credit card debt builds, young people often don’t recognize the problem until it is too late. Eventually their debt gets to the point that the minimum monthly payment only pays off the interest charges. Instead of seeking help with their debt, many young people ignore the problem and, worse yet, they even try to get a second credit card to build more debt. As these young people are trying to prove their independence to their parents, they are often too embarrassed to ask for help. It can lead to a feeling of helplessness.

Education is the Key

The root of the problem is that young people are never taught how to responsibly use credit cards. The school system chooses not to teach such life skills as money management or credit card use. This leaves the responsibility solely in the hands of the parents. Unfortunately many parents are starting to lose touch with their children just when credit education is most necessary. There are also some parents who do not know about responsible credit card use themselves.

Young people need to know how to use a credit card responsibly and how to avoid credit card debt. They need to know to only use their credit card for as much as they can reasonably pay off each month. They need to know all about credit card interest charges too. Without credit education, it is far too easy to make mistakes with your credit card.

The Benefits of Getting a Credit Card Younger

Sure there is the convenience factor of having a credit card when you are just out of high school. More importantly, a credit card helps build credit over time. The earlier you start building credit, the easier it will be to make large purchases in the future. Anytime you need a loan from the bank, the bank will look at your credit history. The longer you’ve built credit, the easier it is to get a loan. Plus you will pay lower interest rates. Without built up credit, you might even get declined for that loan.

Credit cards also give young people the independence that they need. Who wants to phone their parents each time they want to order something online? What about when you sign up for a video rental account or when you register for phone service? A credit card is a must. A credit card can even act as a financial safety net in tough times.

Conclusion

So unless young people get educated about credit card use, there is a good chance that they will have to learn by making mistakes. Help protect their future by giving them the tools to succeed today.

Credit cards are somewhere between a luxury and a necessity. They do offer a lot of convenience since one never need carry cash when a credit card is at hand. Some credit cards come with a lot of regulations, but other companies will offer high school and college students credit cards in the interest of helping them to establish credit. These student credit cards do come with some strings attached, but are more or less interchangeable with a regular credit card. There are a lot of student credit cards which require a co-signer, such as a parent or guardian. If the student fails to make their payments, the responsibility falls upon the co-signer. In effect, the co-signer serves as collateral for the student credit card.A student credit card will generally have a higher rate of interest (also known as APR) than would a traditional credit card. In many cases, the spending limit will be far lower, somewhere between $250-$800 on average. The limit is low since the students have not yet established a credit history and there for dont have a good credit rating. However, the cards still let students establish credit despite the low spending limits.A student credit card can be a big help to a student who wants to make a large purchase. To do this, one would usually need good credit; but this is where the student credit card comes in handy. The student credit card can be used to establish and build good credit, making it much easier to get a more substantial loan when the time comes that one is needed.Student credit cards are also a great way to teach students to handle their finances responsibly. The spending limit is less, but they are just like any other credit card in functionality. One the student can handle using and paying off a credit card, they will be capable of better managing all of their finances. These skills are something which will stay with them for a lifetime. While student credit cards can be great and offer a lot to students, they still can be overused, just like any other credit cards. Students have to learn not to overspend if they rack up more debt than they can pay, they will affect their credit rating and possibly that of their co-signer as well. Before using a credit card at all, students must learn to plan and stick to a budget.Student credit cards however are for the most part a greatly beneficial thing. They teach responsibility to high school and college students and can be a lifesaver in case of emergencies. If you have a son or daughter in school, think about getting them a student credit card it will establish credit for your child and teach them a lot about financial responsibility.

The credit card business has spread to cater every section of society world-wide. Normally, companies target people who have the means to personally repay the unpaid money balance. Students have been allowed this facility, even if they are not earning. Student credit cards are getting popular with students in America. At that stage of their life most of the students are usually unemployed. But, they do have to incur certain expenditure on tuition fee, books, projects and more. They can tide over emergency expenses with a credit card and need not wait while their parents transfer money. Student credit cards are easy to come by, but the interest rates are higher than normal. For that matter, late payment fee is higher and credit limits lower. Parents guarantee payment of unpaid amounts and pay off the credit bills. If a student gets into the bad habit of over-spending he will be sowing seeds of a poor credit rating, which can hamper his credit as an adult. But, a credit card is a wonderful tool to inculcate in your child the virtues of planned spending. That way he grows up to be responsible for his expenses and keep his credit rating intact by building a good credit card history. As holders of credit cards, students are entitled to all rights and liabilities that come with credit cards. The Fair Credit Billing Act is applicable to each type of a credit card. Student credit cards are no exception and students can be even be punished or charged for any unauthorized use of their charge account or for any billing errors of their account. In conclusion, students may be advised to use their credit cards most responsibly and judiciously to avoid falling in a debt trap.CASH BACK CREDIT CARDSCash back credit cards offer a 1% rebate on every purchase you make. You may also get gifts for the shopping you do on your cash back credit card. Most big companies offer cash back credit cards to selected customers only. Persons, with a good credit report or clean credit history are most sought after. In case you hold a cash back credit card it means that you are not bankrupt; nor do you have any unpaid bills. Most of the cash back credit cards are generally offered to those who have a credit score of 700 or better, other than a clean credit history. Some insurance companies prefer dealing with customers holding cash back credit cards. You may even have your loans easily processed by banks. However, be warned that such cards have inherent high rate of interest. It means that the benefits you derive can easily be offset by the high interest you may pay on monthly unpaid balance.Use your credit line judiciously. Many card users have, unfortunately started using credit cards as a principal means to support them, whereas credit cards are meant to help you when you fall short on cash. With high rates of interest, the unpaid amount escalates beyond ones paying power. Credit cards are debt traps, if used injudiciously. Young people are getting attracted to credit cards and their whole perception of money spending changes. They start perceiving credit as free money. Credit cards charge heavy interest on out standings and before a card holder realizes he is caught in a debt trap. He tries to get out of this situation by getting more cards and transferring the balance to the new card. It might give him temporary relief, but it causes untold harm to his credit rating.

Often, students do not have credit records. This makes it difficult for them to obtain credit cards. In addition, if they are able to obtain, the credit limit is low or interest rates charged are high. At such times, prepaid student credit card is the best option, as it provides flexibility of a credit card and avoids accumulating debts at the same time.
No credit checks or monthly installments are required to obtain such type of credit card. The amount transferred to a prepaid credit card determines the spending limit. You can obtain such a credit card online or from a financial institution.
Uses and Benefits:
You can use this credit card wherever normal credit cards are accepted. If credit balance on the card is low, students can refill them at any time. Methods to refill these cards are through cash or check. Some card issuers also accept automatic account loading on a monthly basis.
With normal credit cards, you are not aware of the amount available on the card. Sometimes, dealers may take a small amount first and charge the full amount later. As a result, an overlimit fee is charged, which results in negative balance.
Hence, students need to monitor their credit balance and transactions on their credit cards, as they have to pay the negative balance. This also helps them to beware about financial stability and budgeting at a young age.
Benefits:
Some prepaid student credit cards allow students to build their credit history. You can apply for such a prepaid credit card, if you have a social security number. Social security number plays an important role in applying for this type of credit card. As a result, they are reported to credit bureau agencies. You need to maintain a positive credit history by keeping the card active and avoiding negative balances. Good credit records help students to get credit cards with lower rate of interest and in getting finances such as loans and mortgages.
Prepaid student cards provide students the flexibility of using credit cards without worrying about card debts. Students learn to maintain economic constancy and develop positive credit history with the help of these cards.
These credit cards function in the same manner as normal credit cards do. You can buy goods and services from different locations with these cards. They look and act as a normal card and are very similar to debit cards. You have to put some money in a pre-determined bank account to make use of these cards. If you fail to put money on the card, you will not be able to use the card.
Other Points To Remember:
Minors, who are unable to obtain cards, can get these types of credit cards. Usually, teenagers use prepaid student credit cards the most to build credit history, while studying.
Some disadvantages of these cards are:
1. There is a monthly convenience fee.
2. You have to pay an interest fee.
3. You do not get a credit.
5. They make it difficult to shop with a low interest rate.

Today, credit card is not a symbol of luxury anymore. Credit card is a great convenience, meaning that you don’t have to worry about cash when making a purchase. Even though that the requirements of getting credit card are so strict for students, but many credit cards issuer still giving a chance to let them have their own credit card. Student credit card can be used the same way as a traditional credit card, although it do come with certain restrictions and limitations that other credit cards don’t normally have.
Most banks and credit cards issuer requires co-signer for student credit card application to avoid risk in the future. This person will sign on the loan with the student, and will be the person who will pay the bill if the students are unable to do so. Usually parents will be as co-signer to back up when applying for student credit card in case the students cannot afford to do the pay out.
Some company will charge higher rate or APR for student credit card because they want to lower the risk for their company. The card spending limit may be different from one to another that can be between 250 to 800 dollars.
Students, who are planning to make a large purchase, can greatly benefit from using student credit card. To make large purchases, you’ll need good credit – which is where a student credit card can really help out. You can use these credit cards to build credit, and establish good credit rating background. Your good credit card rating will be an added advantage when you apply for a loan in the near future.
Student credit card indirectly will teach students about the sense of responsibility. The card works just like any other credit card, although the spending limit is much lower. But once the student has mastered usage of the card, he or she can manage money much better later on in life. This card is great for students to have, and can teach them money skills that will last a lifetime.
Just like traditional credit card, students should also know that student credit card can be dangerous. Even though that it is great, there is possibility such as overspending. If students spend more money than they having coming in, they will be unable to pay their credit card bill, which will then affect their credit. Need to remember that co-signer credit may affect if the credit card issuer goes after them to pay out the bill. Plan the budget every month when you finally decide to use student credit card.
All in all, student credit card is convenient to have. For students, this credit card is more like a freedom and it is a way to teach about financial responsibility. It will be useful especially during emergencies, which the biggest reason to invest in them. If your son or daughter is still studying, you can consider looking into student credit card. It can help your child to establish credit – which will take them farther wherever they go in life.

Student credit cards are directed towards students who want to have some extra spending money when they are at school and also so that they have money in case of emergencies. Before students apply for credit cards, they should learn as much about not only the student credit cards, but also credit card borrowing in general.

There are two types of student credit cards that you can use – a secured credit card and an unsecured credit card. Credit cards that are secured hold a bank account as collateral. These types of student credit cards usually offer the lowest interest rate and do not have the danger of you overspending. Students who want to use credit cards are wise to choose secured cards as they will not only build up the credit rating of the student, but will also not allow the danger of overspending.

The other type of credit cards issued to students is unsecured credit cards. These credit cards have a spending limit, a higher interest rate and are not held against a bank account. These student credit cards can be co-signed by a parent or applied for by the student alone. They also offer a student a chance to establish credit and come in handy in case of a financial emergency.

When obtaining student credit cards, you should look for those with the lowest interest payments as well as the lowest fees. You can find out all you need to know about credit cards as well as which one is right for you by going online and discovering about the different cards that are out there. Before signing up for any student credit cards, it is important that you do your homework and investigate the different choices you have when it comes to credit cards.

You also need to learn about credit. You should only use credit cards when needed and with the intention of paying off the bill every month. Using a credit card for all of your purchases is fine, as long as you are aware of the budget that you are on. You should never spend more than you can afford when you are using a credit card. This is important for anyone to learn, but especially for students credit card holders as they are just starting out in the credit world and do not want any black marks on their credit. It can be very difficult to control spending habits for those who just get a credit card. There is a temptation to get more credit cards and to spend as much as possible on student credit cards, including buying things that you do not need or cannot afford.

Students should use the student credit card responsibly and develop good budgeting habits that will help them use their credit cards properly in a way that will help them establish good credit that will follow them for the rest of their lives. When ready, a student can apply for student credit cards right online and have a sense of security as well as a way to build their credit score.

The collateral is in a bank account that is held by the credit card company that issues the student credit card.

It is easy to get a student credit card if you are willing to get secured credit cards. You can apply online after you find the student credit card that is right for you. When you borrow money on secured credit cards, you have to pay it back just as you would with an unsecured card. You pay interest on any outstanding balance. The bank account is usually held as collateral in case you default on your loan.

Secured credit cards are not like debit cards. Whereas a debit card is preloaded with your own money but has a credit card logo, secured credit cards are not preloaded. They also go on your credit report, unlike debit cards. If you are considering getting a student credit card, you can get either secured credit cards or a prepaid debit card easily. The difference is how you will pay back the amount that you owe. Secured credit cards offer an advantage to someone who is responsible enough to write a check to pay off the card each month, or at least pay towards it in a very timely manner. The advantage of using secured credit cards as a student credit card is that you can build your credit score.

The disadvantage of using secured credit cards as a student credit card is if you do not pay on time. This can end up causing you to have a bad credit score, not a good idea for someone who is just starting out with credit.

If you decide to apply for a student credit card, weigh your options. Secured credit cards are a great way to establish credit in your own name and to build up your credit score to the point where you have solid borrowing power. This can benefit you after you get out of school and get a job. You will be able to buy a car or a home with a low interest rate if you have good credit.

If, however, you are irresponsible and tend to make late payments, you should consider debit cards instead of secured credit cards for your student credit card. Until you are ready to take on the responsibility of spending wisely and paying off your debt, you should not get a student credit card.
